Presentation and quantity
Each package of Sculptra comes with:
2 vials of solution;
Traceability labels;
Package insert
Main Benefits
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid implant that is biocompatible and biodegradable. Upon injection, this implant adds volume to areas that are concave or depressed, and is typically used to correct skin creases, wrinkles, folds, and other skin issues caused by the aging process. Sculptra can be used in large volume corrections, including those caused by lipoatrophy, or the loss of significant facial fat that is common in individuals suffering from HIV/AIDS. This is one of the longest lasting dermal filler available on the market, in part because the ingredients help the body create its own supply of collagen, rather than simply filling in areas with lost volume.
Ingredients
Sculptra is made of the following ingredients:
Poly-L-lactic acid (150mg);
Sodium carboxymethyl-cellulose (90mg);
Non-pyrogenic mannitol (127.5mg)
Ingredient Information
This injectable solution contains microparticle beads of poly-L-lactic acid, which is a synthetic polymer that is part of the alpha-hydroxy-acid family. This synthetic substance imitates the natural substance that is produced by muscles during exercise and helps to stimulate the creation of collagen. As Sculptra breaks down, the synthetic substance is replaced by collagen, helping to add and maintain structure in the skin while creating a firmer, more elastic consistency, giving the patient a smoother, fuller look to the face. Due to the production of collagen, this also means that structure is added over time, so results are not immediately apparent after treatment.
How do I use this product?
This product should only be administered by licensed medical professionals who are familiar with the product and have expertise in correcting facial volume imperfections. To use Sculptra, you must first reconstitute the dry powder contained in the package by adding sterile water for injection, which is not included in the package. Once the solution is reconstituted following the manufacturer instruction, the solution should be injected into the treatment area using a 26G sterile needle or a needle appropriate for the area of correction. Sculptra should be injected into the deep dermis using a tunneling, threading, or cross-hatch technique at approximately a 30 to 40° angle before lowering the angle to 10 to 20°. To evenly distribute the product, the treatment area should be massaged after every 3 to 4 injections. Treatment is often spread over three or four sessions occurring about three weeks apart.
When should I use this product?
Sculptra should be used to treat patients with lipoatrophy or any other patient suffering from the appearance of hollow cheeks, sunken eyes, or other distinctly sunken features. It can also be used to correct signs of aging and other cosmetic imperfections, such as deep wrinkles, deep lines such as nasolabial folds, or to sculpt facial features into a more desired shape.
What areas can I treat with this product?
Sculptra can be used to treat the following areas and conditions:
Nasolabial folds or smile lines;
Marionette lines;
Hollows or skin depressions in the temples, cheeks, jawline, and chin
Doctors may use this filler for concerns other than those listed here.
How long does the product last?
Duration of results will vary by patient according to their age, lifestyle, severity of correction, and a number of other factors. Most patients experience results lasting up to 2 years.
How long does the treatment take?
One treatment session typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area of treatment and the depth of correction. Patients will be able to return to their daily activities immediately with no downtime. While some patients may see immediate results, the actual results from treatment will not be visible for a couple weeks after treatment, once the body begins to produce new collagen.
